Carnegie Public Library

Centennial Celebration
1pm Saturday, April 12th
The library with a Canoe on its Card
From library director, Sarah Crisler-Ruskey:
The Carnegie Public Library will mark 100 years of service this Saturday, April 12 at 1:00, and you are invited to celebrate with us. We are located at 114 Delta Avenue in downtown Clarksdale, at the corner of 1st and Delta.
Mrs. Lillian Waddell wrote to Andrew Carnegie in 1909 for help in founding the library, and a few years later, after the city formally agreed to fund the library at 1% annually of Carnegie’s donation, Carnegie donated $10,000 to construct the building, which opened in April, 1914.
We will have music by the talented student musicians of W. A. Higgins Academy, a brief program celebrating the library and supporters, and light refreshments afterwards.
